Gramiya Kalai Vizha conducted for school students
To highlight the importance of our rich tradition and culture, Gramiya Kalai Vizha, where students performed puppet show, villupattu, parayattom and silambattam, was held at Railway Colony Municipal Higher Secondary School in Kollampalayam here. School headmistress N. Thenmozhi said that 150 students were given training for one week in traditional folk songs and storytelling. Another highlight of the Vizha was the villupattu by D. Thomas Antony, a secondary grade teacher at Panchayat Union Middle School at Nadagoundampalayam village, along with four children from Class 6 and 7.
The song focused on pollution in water bodies by industries and people and called for water conservation. Mr. Thomas Antony said that his songs focused on women’s role in development of society and the nation, ill-effects of plastics and topics that focused on self-development.
Teachers said that this was a chance for students not only to express their inner talents, but also help other students know our tradition.
